- IZOD impact resistance
This test method covers the determination of impact resistance of plastics. The samples are notched with a 45° V-shaped notch to create a concentrated impact to ensure that the sample breaks consistently in a known, targeted area.
When tested according to D256 UHMWPE typically gives a non-break type of failure, therefore the modified method in ASTM F648 is used, this produces a greater stress concentration in the material by utilising 2 opposing razor blade notches.
